DEcompose with Burnt Friedman Live
With a career that spans almost 40 years, Cologne and Berlin-based perennial outsider and pioneer Burnt Friedman has had quite a sonic ride, a path that always seems to find new corners to reach in the electronic and electro-acoustic music pasture.
It includes numerous, groundbreaking collaborations with the former CAN drummer Jaki Liebzeit, David Sylvian within his Nine Horses band, Atom™ (aka Señor Coconut) as Flanger, and most recently Iranian-German percussionist Mohammad Reza Mortazavi. He started his musical journey way back in 1979, as a student of the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne by using a shoe-cardboard box equipped with rubber bands in which a microphone was placed and added all sorts of toy percussion and stuff around it. He published his first works and started performing live around the same time.
At the moment, the focus is on his ’Anthology 1980-2017’ that was released last December. 17 tracks compiled from vinyl-only labels Latency, Marionette and Dekmantel, alongside some previously unreleased material clearly show that this opus is, well, undescribable. Ever since its founding in 2000 most of Burnt Friedman’s work is self-released on the Nonplace label. Rhythms for the global village, techno, jazz, experimental or dub-infused (as in his Nu Dub Players project where he pioneered the dub-infused sound at the beginning of the XXI century for the label ~scape), Burnt Friedman’s sound remains burnt deep into the skin of contemporary music, bringing eternal pulses of Africa and the Middle East straight into the stomach of European electronic music, and by no other route than via Jamaica.
A truly unique opportunity to see him live, fellow dancers and visitors of Belgrade, for the first time in Belgrade and Serbia, supported by a sonically complimetary group of live local live musicians, DJs and freaks.
